FAQ

Can we use Cocopeat again and again?

Unlike peat moss, which is not structurally sturdy enough to be reused, coco coir can be safely recycled two or three times. It’s completely safe to reuse coco coir.

How much coco peat do I mix with soil?

When creating new garden beds or digging a hole for a plant, add about 1:3 coconut coir with native soil and compost. Incorporate the coconut coir and native soil together to create a clumpy, friable structure.

Is it necessary to wash coco peat?

Coir available from the PONVEL shop has been pre-buffered with calcium nitrate, which helps give you the best start for your plants. Washing is also pertinent to achieving the best results because of the additional salt content that raises the electrical conductivity of the media.

Can we grow plants directly in Cocopeat?

No, coco peat is an excellent soil amendment and constituent but it doesn’t hold appreciable nutrients in it. So do mix the coco peat with soil and/or compost to make a better-growing media for plants. However, coco peat alone can be used to germinate seeds.

How long can Cocopeat last?

Cocopeat is light, easy to handle, and can even be used for up to 4 years. Cocopeat’s physical and biochemical properties make it resistant to bacterial and fungal growth. Cocopeat disintegrates slowly. It only begins to break down when it is ten years old, thus providing long-term benefits.

How often should you water Cocopeat?

A good rule of thumb would be to water every four or five days. You also need to use a pot that provides good drainage, as your coco coir requires air and moisture to promote healthy plant growth. If there’s too much moisture inside, there won’t be enough air.

What is the pH of coco peat?

With a pH of approximately 5.8 – 6.8, coco coir is slightly alkaline, meaning no extra products are required to neutralize the soil. This level of acidity is also considered to be perfect for slowly releasing nutrients
